ANL Round 6 Match Report
The Tasmanian Magpies continued their back-to-back winning streak after recording two wins against the NSW Waratahs in Sydney over the weekend.
Game 1 on Saturday 25 March saw a tight tussle and a wonderful contest presented by both teams that saw the scores levelled at quarter time.
The Magpies maintained focus, breaking through to take the lead 28 to 23 at half time.
Goal Shooter Samantha Gooden delivered a perfect nine-from-nine shots in the final quarter, allowing the Magpies to take the win 53 to 47.
Game 2 on Sunday saw the Waratahs seek revenge at Sydney Olympic Park, with Goal Shooter Mickaela Vaughan scoring the first two goals of the match early in the first quarter.
The addition of experienced players, Shae Brown, Micaela Wilson and Alice Teague-Neeld, provided clear options and definite leads, assisting in the team’s lead, 28 to 25 at half-time.
Goal Keeper, Matilda Garrett again shone in the ring, taking some fantastic intercepts and producing tight one-on-one play.
The Waratahs also made some changes, bringing Emma Ticker into Goal Defence and Tayla Fraser into Centre, in aim of blocking the Magpies through the mid-court.
Wing Defence Sophie Halpin also produced some fantastic holds around the ring and was a great option leading through the mid-court.
The Tasmanian Magpies were able to follow in the footsteps of the Collingwood Magpies with each team taking one-goal wins in the final moments of each match.
Within the last 20 seconds of the match, Gooden was able to score the final goal and to see the Magpies take the win, 50-49.
Round 7 will see the Tasmanian Magpies travel to Perth to battle it out against the Western Sting. This round is sure to provide two massive games with both teams battling it out for their last minute finals chances as the Sting currently sits fifth, just one position above the Magpies.
The first match will be held on Saturday 1 April, 12pm at the Perth State Netball Centre and the second match on Sunday, 10am at the same venue.
