Magpies star shooter Caitlin Thwaites has capped off a remarkable season by winning the club’s best and fairest award on Friday evening.

Thwaites – who led the league in scoring with 594 goals at 92 per cent efficiency – polled 74 votes on her way to being crowned the Magpies’ best player of the 2017 season.

In her 15th year of professional netball, Thwaites’ career-best season was recognized by her teammates and supporters, as she also took home the Players’ Player and the Members Best and Fairest awards.

In a season that marked Collingwood’s introduction to the national league netball, Thwaites was a pillar of consistency in the Magpies’ shooting circle.

The 30-year-old enjoyed career-best shooting figures, including a haul of 50 goals against the West Coast Fever in round eight.

Joining Thwaites was Magpies Netball vice-captain Ashleigh Brazill, who was rewarded for her strong season as she polled 49 votes to be named runner-up in the Best and Fairest award.

Brazill – who crossed from the West Coast Fever in 2016 – enjoyed a breakout season with the Magpies. The star wing defender recorded 39 deflections, 26 intercepts and 69 centre pass receives, and became a fan favourite as she wowed the Magpies crowd with her uncompromising commitment to the contest.

Magpies captain Madi Robinson and vice-captain Sharni Layton finished equal third in the voting, with Kim Ravaillion rounding out the top five.
