FELLOWS ELEVATED TO ASSISTANT COACH

One of netball’s most respected figures, Cathy Fellows, has been elevated to an assistant coaching position at Magpies Netball ahead of 2018.
Fellows, who worked with the Magpies as a specialist coach this year, brings a wealth of experience to the club’s coaching ranks.
After leading the Victorian Flames in 2013-14, Fellows was appointed the Head Coach of the Netball Victoria Talent Squad in 2015, where she worked closely with high-performance athletes in a developmental role.
Fellows also coached the Victorian Fury in 2016, and was one of three national selectors who chose the 17/U and 19/U Australian youth squads earlier this year. Her esteemed career has also seen her work with the Melbourne Vixens, where she was a part of the coaching staff.
Fellows joined the Magpies as a goaling and defensive coach in 2017, and was a mentor within the Tasmanian Magpies program in the Australian Netball League.
“I’m incredibly excited to take on this new opportunity with the team,” Fellows told Magpies Netball this week.
“I’ve known some of these players since they were 13 years old. I’ve watched them grow as people and as netballers, so it’s pretty exciting to be able to work with them again.
“One of my strengths is my knowledge of the game, and my understanding of the athletes. I think that will be my greatest asset to the team going forward.”
Fellows said she was excited to join Magpies Netball Head Coach Kristy Keppich-Birrell, of whom she has worked with before.
“We’ve had a working relationship as coaches for 15 years. We have a great understanding of each other’s coaching styles and our strengths and weaknesses.”
General Manager of Magpies Netball Jennifer McIntyre said the club was looking forward to having Fellows on board in a greater role next season.
“We’re really excited to be able to expand Cathy’s role at Collingwood in 2018,”.
“She’s an experienced coach who has a lot to offer at SSN level.
“She has a great relationship with our players, having coached many of them through their junior pathways.
“Cathy’s knowledge of the game is invaluable, and her skillset will compliment Kristy beautifully.”
