LAYTON WITHDRAWS FROM QUAD SERIES

Netball Australia - August 9, 2017

Samsung Diamonds defender Sharni Layton is a late withdrawal from the Australian netball Quad Series team, due to exhaustion.

The 29-year-old will take a leave of absence from netball, after extensive consultation with a group of medical experts.

Layton made her international debut in June 2011, and has amassed 46 test caps.

She has been named in every Diamonds touring team since September 2013, after a shoulder injury sidelined her from international duties in 2012.

Samsung Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander said “first and foremost we have a duty of care to the wellbeing of our athletes."

"Sharni has represented and led our country with her heart on her sleeve, but is in need of a break.

"Our medical and support staff will continue to work closely with Sharni during this time.”

Collingwood will be represented by Madi Robinson, Caitlin Thwaites, April Brandley and Kim Ravaillion on the international stage.

The Diamonds will gather on the Sunshine Coast from 22 August, before opening the Netball Quad Series in Brisbane on 26 August against the England Roses.
