Magpies head to Launceston

Collingwood Magpies to head to Launceston for Festival of Netball

Following the confirmation that the Collingwood Magpies will bring their Round 10 clash against the Queensland Firebirds to Launceston, the newly formed Magpies team is excited to announce a host of events surrounding the match.

The events will offer Tasmanian netball fans a variety of opportunities to engage with the Magpies team, with Collingwood Magpies Tasmanian members having priority access to it all.

Kicking off the weekend will be a Super Clinic hosted by the entire Collingwood Magpies squad on Thursday 27 April.

“All of our players and coaching staff are excited to get down to Launceston and be involved in what we are calling a Festival of Netball” General Manager of Netball, Jen McIntyre said.

Collingwood Magpies Netball and Netball Tasmania staff are in the early stages of planning a junior clinic, high performance clinic, an open training session, coaching, umpiring and bench official development opportunities, as well as a number of other opportunities for Tasmanian fans.

“We are hoping to offer something for everyone in netball, from junior to high performance athletes, as well as umpires, coaches and bench officials, all whilst being able to give back to our Tasmanian members by offering them the first chance to get involved.”

The weekend will be just a taste of what is to come for netball in Tasmania, with the Collingwood Magpies keen to get out amongst the communities throughout Tasmania to promote the game and help develop players and officials throughout the netball pathway.

Netball Tasmania CEO Julia Phillips said, “This is a great example of how the partnership between Netball Tasmania and the Collingwood Magpies will help to promote netball throughout the state.”

“Of course we are thrilled that the Magpies are playing a key match here in Tasmania, but the plans for the Festival of Netball really showcase the enormous scope of the partnership,” she added.

“This first Festival is aligned with the match at the Silverdome, but whatever we do in Launceston will be replicated in other parts of Tasmania.”

The weekend will culminate in the Suncorp Super Netball League match, which will see the Collingwood Magpies battle it out against the Queensland Firebirds on Sunday 30 April.

Tasmanian members will be given the first opportunity to register for the events, so sign up today to make sure you don’t miss out! Details can be found at magpiesnetball.com.au.
