SEASON OVER FOR LANGE
Magpie Cody Lange will miss the remainder of the Suncorp Super Netball season with scans confirming a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee.
Lange was injured during a training session at the Holden Centre on Monday night. It is her second ACL injury, having undergone a reconstruction to her right knee in 2016 when she was playing for the Adelaide Thunderbirds in the now defunct ANZ Championships.
The 22-year-old moved to Melbourne to sign with Collingwood last year in a bid to reignite her netball career after suffering the serious injury.
The talented goal attack partnered with Caitlin Thwaites in the second half of Saturday’s win against the Swifts, shooting nine goals and recording one goal assist, 11 centre-pass receives and six feeds.
Magpies Netball head coach Kristy Keppich-Birrell said the team is devastated for their young goal attack.
“Both the playing group and coaches are shattered for Cody who has flourished since arriving at the club having only recently returned from her previous knee injury,” Keppich-Birrell said.
“We watched Cody work tirelessly over the past six months to get back to full fitness and the commitment and professionalism she showed during that time gives us every confidence that she will again make a successful return to the court.
“’Codes’ is much-loved by the group and will still play an important support role throughout the remainder of the 2017 season."
Lange will undergo surgery in the coming weeks and work closely with the club’s medical and conditioning staff throughout her rehabilitation.
The club will now work with the league to secure an injury replacement player.
