The games provided another great opportunity for the team to try new combinations and displayed its progress from its pre-season program. The Magpies made a strong impression in their first match against the West Coast Fever, claiming a seven-goal victory on Saturday.

Coming face-to-face with her former team, Nat Medhurst dominated in the ring alongside youngster Shimona Nelson.

Taking to the court in centre, Kim Ravaillion was dominant across the entire game, providing great assistance throughout the court and applying impressive defensive pressure at the Fever’s end.

Game two saw the Vixens seek redemption over the Magpies after their last encounter in Brisbane.

The cross-town rivals fired out of the gates, taking a three-goal lead early in the first quarter.

The Magpies were able to refocus and get the game on their terms in the second, which saw them rewarded with a three-point three lead at half-time.

The defensive pressure of Mel Bragg in goal-defence, accompanied by some outstanding turnovers from Ash Brazill, saw the defensive duo limit the Vixens attempts at goals, ultimately levelling the scores heading into the final term.

Although it was a tight contest, the Vixens ended up getting the better of the Pies and won 61 – 56.

The Magpies will now prepare for round one of the 2019 Suncorp Super Netball League where they’ll meet the winners of the last two premierships, the Sunshine Coast Lighting, on April 27 at Melbourne Arena.
